Camping Etiquette Is Simple Common Courtesy

Summer is the prime camping time…..thousands and thousand of campers each day are filling up campgrounds and resorts across Norths America looking for fun….adventure….relaxation…..cheap vacation…..

Whatever it is….all of the campers should have one thing in common…… following basic CAMPING ETIQUETTE.
Last year we spent most of our summer camping and we’ve been camping for last two weeks….again this summer.
I had lots of time to observe many campers in action and let me tell you….not everyone knows what the CAMPING ETIQUETTE is…
To me camping etiquette is and always was simple common courtesy and respect to my fellow campers….and …the environment….

Well, many of our fellow campers seem to forget COMMON COURTESY the minute they leave their home….so I decided to write 10 basic Camping Etiquette Tips to help them…..to fit in….
- Obey Campground Rules – each campground has different rules according to where they are located. Some of the rules may not make sense to you and some might sound unimportant, but they are there to PROTECT YOU and YOUR FAMILY as well as the environment.
- Take Care Of Your Animals – keep them on leash or supervised at all times, clean up after them, keep them quiet late at night and early in the morning, don’t let them wonder around other peoples sites (not everybody is an animal lover).
- Keep It Clean – keep your garbage in proper places, don’t spread your toys….games…bikes all over campground. If you bring something to the pool or the beach take it back with you.
- Keep Facilities Clean – if you use campground showers and washrooms treat them like it’s your home and clean after yourself. If you have children don’t assume they left facilities clean (most of them don’t). Nobody wants to clean after your child just so they can use the facilities themselves.
- Drive Slowly Through Campground- there is always kids playing somewhere. Driving your dirt bikes and ATVs around campground is just stupid and ignorant and it doesn’t make you look cool.
- Don’t Blast Your Music – not all of us have the same taste in music so keep it on the level that the rest of us can listen to our own music.
- Don’t Cut Through People’s Camp Sites – go around….you have time….you are camping….Teach your children to walk around as well.
- Make Friends and Be Helpful , but know when to leave. Don’t make a pest of yourself…..don’t be know-it-all just because you know the campground and the area. Not everybody came to socialize with strangers.
- Know Where Your Children Are - some campgrounds are more secure then others, but you need to know where your children are at all times….not only for their safety, but also for the enjoyment of other campers. Again, not everybody likes children and some children have a tendency to misbehave when they are in a presence of other children and without supervision.
- Don’t Burn Garbage – the campfire pit is not your personal garbage disposal. Burning paper plates and paper is fine…..when you are burning plastic or styrofoam we can all smell it…..and see it.
Now that we all know the basic CAMPING ETIQUETTE we all can move on and enjoy the great outdoors…..remember…..RESPECT!
One more thing….I love COMMENTS like everyone else so go ahead and let me know how am I doing.I would love to hear from you.

Hope you have fun camping and I hope you will meet with more camping etiquette then I am meeting with here…..
I think you should turn this into a little book….. Camping Etiquette! I love camping myself …. but hate the crowds! because of the lack of camping etiquette!
I was thinking about printing my Camping Etiquette Tips and hand them to every new camper who pulls in,lol. Wonder how that would go over……
Truer words have never been spoken!!! People breaking these rules are the reason we are into wilderness camping! Great post bibi. (I just hope people listen

That’s it exactly….when hubs is home he prefers wilderness camping, unfortunately when I am alone with the boys we have to do the full-hook up campgrounds and they are the worst for people not having any caming etiquette.
I agree with Debra, this should be turned into a little book!!! And yes, I guess you should hand them to every new campers!!

Now all you have to do is post your excellent tips around the camp ground! Common respect seems like such a no brainer to me, and yet, my standards often differ from others. Sometimes lower, sometimes higher I reckon. Good suggestions!

You would think common sense and common courtesy would be no brainer, but not when it comes to camping….
This sounds like the rules we needed in my first apartment! HA! But all kidding aside, isn’t it a shame that some people required these sort of common courtesies to be rules?

Yes, indeed….it’s a shame. For some reason people think that because they are camping they must behave worst then wild animals…..sorry that is offensive to wild animals…
This list should be mandatory reading for all potential campers. Camping at the beach is the worst for blasting music.
I’ve also encountered many trashy campers lately.
I love caming. Thanks for the tips.
I’m just amazed you camp girl! I’ve never been & don’t think I’d fair well at all.

Lol, I admit camping is not for everybody….., but once you try it many convert…..
#7 drives me nuts. I’ve had that experience. I would also add – pitch your tent well away from everyone else if you snore!

We experienced few snorers and unfortunately was was my sister’s boyfriend…..the worst I ever heard!
I haven’t been camping in about 16 years… I feel like a majority of people in general lack common courtesy in all aspects of life…

Oh! Oh! Oh! You forgot this one!
Don’t assume that those pitching a tent aren’t using their hookups. If they weren’t going to use them, they would have paid for a cheaper space without hookups.
I can’t tell you how many times we’ve come back to our spot to find that someone decided we weren’t going to use our hookups and helped themselves to them!

That is a good one……that’s so true. I keep forgetting that cause we use hook ups, but I see it all over…..
Great rules! It’s amazing how many people disregard all sense of common courtesy when camping.
