Kids Craft – Candy Cane Candle

December is the time of the year when I love spending cold winter evenings with my children baking cookies, watching holiday movies while sipping hot cocoa and of course making Christmas craft.
I am always on a lookout for new craft ideas I can do with my kids. I love to window shop, flip through the magazines or browse the internet. There is so many craft ideas out there especially at Christmas time.
Few years ago I saw a picture of a Candy Cane Candle in one of my magazines and it become part of our yearly Christmas craft.
Candy Cane candle is very easy, cheap and perfect craft to involve your children in. You can leave it as a free candle or you can make it a part of an centerpiece.
Over the years we tried many variations of Candy Cane candle. My favorite is making as a centerpiece with fresh evergreens and pine cones. It’s very festive and comforting at the same time.
My children made many Candy Cane candles to give away to their teachers and grandparents. Everybody loves them.
I love the idea of turning inexpensive kids craft into very special presents.
To make your own Candy Cane Candle you will need:
- 3″ wide and 3″ to 4″ tall pillar candle (I like the ones with Christmas smells)
- 30 Candy Canes ( any color you like – classic Red & White looks the best)
- 2 Rubber bands
- 1″ wide Christmas Ribbon
- Small Spring of Holiday Berries or other tiny ornament (optional)
Place the rubber bands around the candle (I like to use 2-3 bands for stronger hold).

Cut the Candy Canes with sharp knife to the length of the candle and place the unwrapped candy cane sticks underneath the rubber bands. Go around the candle till it’s all covered.

Tie the Christmas ribbon around the rubber bands in a bow. If you are using other decorations glue them with a strong glue or hot glue gun onto the bow.
If you are using the Candy Cane candle as a free standing candle make sure you have a proper pillar candle plate or stand underneath it.
If you are using the Candy Cane candle in a centerpiece just let your imagination go.
REMEMBER: When you light up your candle for the first time let it burn until the well is 1″ from the edge. Next time you light it up it won’t get any wider.

Sweet! I miss the days of making things with my girl – she’s 14 and not into that. Good thing I have 3 nieces who I can do this with in a couple of years!
Oooh that’s a really lovely centerpiece.
Thanks for visiting my blog and joining in the conversation.
That’s so cute. I could see using a wide silk ribbon to cover the rubber band too.
Karen, I used red velvet ribbon on my sophisticated adult version for the main living room.
Popped in from SITS! What a charming craft!
Stumbled! How cute is this!! It looks like something you’d buy in the store! Better, actually!!
Thank you, Kristin.
It was so much fun making it and it is way cheaper then buying it.
I love it. I may have to make one for myself.
Michelle, it’s so easy and so much fun. You can get very creative with this one.
