First Impression Matters

Most of us find ourselves meeting new people many times in our life.

We all try to make new acquaintances that could end up being our friends. We all have to meet new family members, teachers, new employers or employees.

Good first impression is very important and no matter what anyone says the first impression counts.

Sometimes we might get lucky and get a second change, but why risk that? Why not make a great first impression the first time?

I myself am a shy person by nature so meeting new people is a challenge by itself. I always worry about making positive first impression more then anyone else in the room.

If you are anything like me next time when you are meeting new people remember few simple first impression tips and you will make a great first impression.

First Impression Matters

The most important part of good first impression is HANDSHAKE.

My father always told me that you can tell person’s character by their handshake….There is nothing worse then limp grip, sweaty palms and no eye contact.

When shaking hands with someone make sure that:

  • you offer your hand first and that your handshake is firm
  • you make a direct eye contact immediately
  • you give the handshake a gentle squeeze
  • the handshake doesn’t last more then 5 seconds

First Impressions

Another important part of good first impression is LISTENING and INTERACTING:

  • listen and give verbal cues to show your interest
  • make the conversation more personal by using the person’s name frequently
  • stay away from sarcastic and questionable humor (not everyone appreciates it)

Stick to these simple first impression tips and next time you will meet someone new you will make a great first impression. ……Guaranteed…..

Remember, first impression counts….you don’t always get a second chance.

One more thing….I love COMMENTS like everyone else so go ahead and let me know how am I doing.I would love to hear from you.

Most of the people I meet during my working day are under four years old, so handshaking is not always the done thing! However, you are of course spot on, particularly when it comes to listening and interacting.

Thank you, Mandy. LOL, yes it must be a challenge to do the handshake thing with little persons, but it must be awfully cute to try.

I agree with the handshake. When I interview potential employees I always take that into consideration.

Yes, handshake is so important when meeting people for the first time. That is one of the first things my dad taught me when I was ready to enter the working world and looking for a part-time job as a teenager.
