Go The Fok To Sleep – Book Review

I am sure most of you heard about the book that is sweeping the nation sort of speak called Go The F**k To Sleep.

Go The F**k To Sleep

For those who by some miracle didn’t hear about it….I am not starting a swearing ritual….I do not need my mouth washed out with a soap…I am just referring to the funny nursery rhymes book for adults/parents written by Adam Mansbach and it is on the bestseller list in Chapters and Amazon.

I’ve been hearing about Go The Fok To Sleep for few months now, but not having small children anymore I didn’t really pay attention to it….I admit mostly because of the language…..

….till the other day when I was browsing the New Arrivals and Bestsellers display in Chapters with my 14 year old son.

Go The F**k To Sleep

There it was….right in the middle….staring at us….

I had no choice….I gave in….I opened it…..I read it….I was laughing so hard that I almost had the need for some adult diapers….

I allowed my 14 year old to read it as well…

It took him few minutes to stop laughing and after he regained his composure this question came?

Go The F**k To Sleep

…..”Mom, did you feel the same way when you were putting us down to sleep?”……

…..few seconds of uncomfortable silence….

“Yes, son…..I did. There were times that I was whispering these words under my breath over and over and over”

“Then this dude just wrote what the rest of you were thinking….he is just being honest and freaking hilarious.”

There you have it. The review of Go The Fok To Sleep is out!

….hilarious…..honest….nursery rhymes book for over-tired and frustrating parents everywhere! Nursery rhymes book for adults saying it as it is….no excuses…no apologies.

Go The F**k To Sleep

It might be little unconventional and profane for some people and some people might always have issues with it due to the “F” bomb that most of us work hard to keep out of our vocabulary……., but it is brutally honest and hilarious….something that this serious world needs.

Just to be clear….I would never allow my younger child to read Go The Fok To Sleep….the only reason I allowed my teenager to read it because he is mature enough to understand reasoning behind this book……and lets face it….unfortunately he hears worst language in halls of his high school and he understands what’s right and what’s wrong.

One more thing….I appreciate your time to read this post and I hope you will come back, but I also love COMMENTS like everyone else so go ahead and let me know how am I doing. I would love to hear from you.

  1. I have not heard of this book! My son is 2 1/2 and he’s just starting some of this stuff… “Thirsty” “Water” “Go potty” – which is my favorite, he just sits there and laughs…

I just can’t get passed it. It doesn’t make me laugh but I’m always glad when somebody else has a chuckle. I just hate that we’ve incorporated this word into our vocab as easy as ‘darn’. Which, BTW, I wasn’t allowed to say when I was little. Maybe that explains it. I like being me though so whatever. One of my BFs says it all the time and she’s still my BF but just not for me. Cute pics tho. Sandra

I have read it. All of my daughters have read it too- I have to admit- we all laughed. Hard. Pass the Depends this way. LOL

It is funny – and exactly the way we’re all feeling of late with a new (already spoiled) puppy in the house!

I haven’t heard of this book either and probably because of also not having small children. I must be honest, when I first saw the heading I couldn’t picture it coming from you – although I don’t swear (or really try hard not too..) sometimes there just isn’t another word you can use that is as descriptive :) I will get this book and I will read it and send it on to my daughter-in-law in SA.

  7. Never heard of it either – but it hits probably every mother’s thoughts right on the nose, especially during early childhood… :D

  8. I have yet to read it in full but from what I gather it’s absolutely hilarious. I am not a mother but I can imagine this is how many parents feel some nights. This is simply refreshing honesty that some people are too chicken to dare admit. Sucks for them.

Anyone who gets their panties in a twist over this book because of the language needs to quit being so dang uptight. It’s a book. That’s it. If you aren’t a fan of language, good for you. Just don’t ruin it for the rest of us because you’re too serious for your own good. Even with harsh language we all could use a laugh like this from time to time.

  9. So I have officially made the decision: I am getting this book for my parents (who still complain about what a terror I was as a child— especially at bedtime!)

Great post & glad you let your 14 year old read it so he can know what you used to go through. I LOVE this book. My son is also 14 but we still have these bedtime issues, guessing because of his Asperger’s. So when the book came out I bought it immediately and took it to him saying I bought a bedtime story. He took it from me and started reading and was laughing hysterically and then of course asked why they would write this for little kids. I explained it was definitely not a bedtime story for little kids. But so fitting for him.
It was great because after we read the book any night he started his “I want…” at bedtime I said go the bleep to sleep. He said it wasn’t funny anymore but I swear he has been doing better at bedtime!! Maybe it helped him understand how I feel.
BTW there is a narrated version of this book by Samuel L. Jackson :)
