Unforgettable Dinner Experience at Miradoro Restaurant

Living in the beautiful and sunny Okanagan Valley sure has it’s perks….
One of the perks is being surrounded by rolling hills covered with vineyards and many World Class Award Winning Wineries……
One of these wineries is Tinhorn Creek….not only Tinhorn Creek produces award-winning wines…… farm their own vineyards using sustainable practices….., but few months ago they open a restaurant called MIRADORO….
I’ve been planning visit Miradoro for few months now…..finally….last week I decided to take my best friend for dinner and check out what Miradoro has to offer…..
One thing about South Okanagan……lots of wineries making great wines……lots of restaurants serving mediocre food for ridiculous price (for what you get).
Some restaurants are jumping on the “Wine Country” wagon offering meals paired with local wines…..trying to use local ingredients….using fancy words in their menus…., but…..
…..if you don’t have an experienced sommelier…..educated staff…..chef and cooks that cook with passion…..YOU CAN’T DELIVER!
I was hoping MIRADORO wasn’t one of these half-baked wannabe restaurants…..
When I pulled into the parking lot I was immediately impressed with the location…..view and architecture of Miradoro restaurant.
Upon entering the restaurant we were welcomed immediately by a friendly hostess asking if we have a reservation……we did not….note to self……next time make a reservation.
However she did find us a nice table for two on their gorgeous patio overlooking the Okanagan Valley. Despite being middle of July and not bringing our jackets (nobody wears jackets in July in the Okanagan) it was little cool that night, but the ceiling heater kept us very comfortable.
Withing few minutes of sitting down a waitress welcomed us and offered us complimentary sparkling water part of the restaurant’s Vivreau Water Service
serves Vivreau Filtered Water. We offer this pure and ecologically sustainable bottled water
complimentary to our dining guests. Thank you for helping us reduce our carbon footprint by
eliminating the need to ship water.”
After filling our glasses she placed fresh full bottle of sparkling water on our table (every time a staff member walked by and saw our glasses almost empty they refilled them for us).

Immediately after that our main waiter came by with a full basket of fresh Focaccia and olive oil & vinegar for dipping. We devoured the foccacia (one of the best I ever tasted) and it was immediately replaced by another basket full…..who needs a meal…..right?
While we were enjoying our foccacia and discussing the menu Miradoro restaurant sommelier/general manager walked by to check on us…..and….help us with a wine selection to compliment our dinner.
He suggested a wonderful white wine….which name we both forgot…..meant to ask for it……forgot again….need to go back and have another glass or two……sounds like a plan…..
Now….lets move onto our meal…..lets just say I was impressed before I even ordered…..
Miradoro restaurant serves Market Cuisine Menu inspired by cuisine of Italy, Spain and Portugal. The meals are rustic….simple (yet sophisticated)…using fresh local ingredients in season…..
We started our dinner by sharing SALAD of Local Greens, Spiced Almonds, Goat Gruyere, Caramelized Honey & Sherry Vinaigrette……

All I can tell you is…..I wish I didn’t have to share it……the subtle heat from the spiced almonds mixed with sweetness of caramelized honey and sharpness of goat Gruyere…….GENIUS…..GORGEOUS….DELICIOUS…..
For the main course we each picked a different dish….
My best friend pasta and lamb lover chose (I suggested it)……Lamb Ragout with Orecchiette, Truffle & Sweet Peas…..

The pasta was done to perfection….Al Dente….all the way…..the lamb was succulent and juicy….the truffle and sweet peas complimented the dish perfectly…..(shhhh, don’t tell…she cleaned her plate with focaccia).
Myself being pork and risotto lover I chose…….Fraser Valley Pork, Prosciutto & Mint Risotto, Beets, Whey

Lets talk pork….juicy….lean…full of flavor and to my satisfaction each medallion had little rim of crunchy-caramelized fat around it (hey, it’s not pork if it doesn’t have a little bit of the good stuff on it).
Mint Risotto….heaven in my mouth…..CREAMY…..not mushy….fresh chunks of mint…..can this dish get any better?….Oh, yes…it sure can… with chunks of warm grilled beets and little sprouts of whey…..
MIRADORO did not disappoint so far…., but it was dessert time…..
Did you really think after meal like this we would skip dessert?…..Not likely…..bring it on……
My friend was thinking about the Walnut and Chocolate Ganache Tart ever since the helpful sommelier shared with us the Dinner Tasting Menu Miradoro restaurant offers every night.

I decided to explore the possibilities with the help of Miradoro Dulce menu…..after a close examination I went for Olive Oil & Hazelnut Cake with Pistachio Gelato wrapped in Fruit Ribbon, Praline and Lemon Curd.

As you probably guessed we tasted each other desserts……both delicious….yummy…., but as a baker and a pastry maker…..the only complaint I would have…..too expensive….I think $11 is little too much for a little dessert of that caliber.
All and all…..we left Miradoro restaurant and Tinhorn Creek Winery…..full….happy….satisfied…..impressed and we will be back…..
Miradoro restaurant is a great place for special occasions…..to treat yourself……to feel special and pampered…..
When you visit Miradoro expect to spend more then you would having dinner or lunch in majority of South Okanagan restaurants, but you can also expect first class service that matches its first class meal and experienced staff……that to me is worth the occasional trip up to hill to Tinhorn Creek Winery and Miradoro restaurant….

…..it’s nice to have a restaurant of this caliber in the South Okanagan…..now only if we all made more money to enjoy it more often……
I give Miradoro Restaurant 9 out of 10 points.
One more thing….I love COMMENTS like everyone else so go ahead and let me know how am I doing.I would love to hear from you.
