Sateen Collection Egyptian Cotton Sheets – Review

Usually I am one of those “research before you buy” people (got burned one two many times in the past). I have no explanation
for what went on inside my brain when I decided to make a purchase from a vendor at a fair…..no explanation….no excuse (well, maybe his 400W smile)
It all started when we visited the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) in Vancouver.
Since we moved away from Vancouver 14 years ago I don’t get to go every year so when I do it’s like Christmas in summertime.
My favorite part of the PNE is the Shopping Part. It’s not that often that you get to visit a building cramped full of new and popular products. Not only you get to purchase them for “Today Only Low Price”….. but you get to try them out and hear the long speech every salesman a.k.a. product pusher prepared to hook you and real you in.
I used to be an impulse buyer and as I already mentioned…..got burned once or twice……and have cupboards full of useless items to prove it.
These days I am way more picky and I usually take my time and do my research before I buy.Fool me once shame on me…..Fool me twice…..well, still shame on me for not doing my research.
This brings me to my one and only purchase at the PNE last summer.
SATEEN COLLECTION 400 Thread Count Sheet Set in a beautiful red color.
I fell in love with the sheets the minute I laid my eyes on them. The color won me over and after I touched the sheets I was hooked. I didn’t even need the product pusher’s speech , but I decided to humor him. He worked so hard on his spiel….(and wasn’t bad to look at either).
The label read:” These 100% Egyptian Cotton sheets are made of a high strength micro-cotton thread that will stay soft & light with a silk-like feeling and color brilliance.
What else can I say….my mind was made up and King size set at $50.00 “Today Only Low Price” was a steal.
Let me tell you…..I couldn’t get home fast enough to wash my new Egyptian Cotton sheets and indulge myself in some luxury. My husband works out of town so it was perfect time to switch to girlie bedding.
First night was heaven…..soft and silky just like promised. In the morning I noticed little bit of piling happening.
Three nights later my bottom sheet started looks like crap (excuse the language). It was piling like nobody’s business. The color was fading or rubbing out (both equally bad) and the soft and silky feeling was a distant memory.I can’t even imagine how would the sheets look with two people sleeping in the bed.
Before my husband came home I switched the awful and ugly 100% Egyptian Cotton Sheets for my trusty IKEA sheets that keep their color and shape for longer then 3 days……Those Swedish do have common sense.
Sateen Collection Egyptian Cotton Sheets are not worth the money and are the worst sheets I purchased in a very long time.
If you find yourself somewhere at a local fair or in a mall step away from SATEEN COLLECTION Egyptian Cotton sheets no matter how pretty they look, how soft they feel and how handsome the product pusher is.
Sateen Collection Egyptian Cotton sheets are not worth a penny in my opinion.
My rating is for this product is -10.
One more thing….I love COMMENTS like everyone else so go ahead and let me know how am I doing.I would love to hear from you.

Great review. It sucks when sheets don’t live up to expectations. The moderate thread count could have been part of the problem, but more likely was the weave and finishing process. When the fibers break easily they leave loose ends which ‘stick out’ and get spun around causing ‘pills’. It was probably sub-par to begin with and that’s too bad.
Not all Egyptian Cotton Sheets are that way. Don’t let it deter you from trying some in the future.
I had the EXACT same experience, I worked at the PNE last year and purchased not just 1 set but 3! and they were awful!!! I plan to go back this year at let them know how awful they really are.
That vendor is still there but pushing them as 1200 count Egyptian Cotton. I didn’t read the package and washed them for use that night. When in bed, we noticed something strange, it just didn’t seem like Eyptian Cotton. I found the tag and, what do you know, 100%…MICROFIBER!
I read the package carefully and the package does state that it’s microfiber. I’m assuming the Eyptian reference and 1200 is in reference to how soft they feel.
I am quite upset about this and am considering spending the $20 admission fee to confront these guys!
Never again!
