Spectacle Lake Resort – Family Camping

Honestly, I can’t believe it’s already May.

The weather was so awful the whole month of April that I wasn’t even thinking about summer and camping.

We usually clean up our travel trailer early March and start little camping trips in April…..not this year.

First, there was the little issue of my health (hubs would disagree with the word LITTLE) and then the weather just sucked.

So far May is not impressing me much, but it’s only beginning so I’ll give Mother Nature another chance to get on my good side.

While Mother Nature is decided what to give us I think I need to get the trailer ready….just in case…you never know.

Two summers ago I heard through the grapevine about this great lake resort located within 45 minutes (across the border) drive from our home.

The Spectacle Lake Resort is located in North Central Washington just outside a small town of Tonasket.

First time we decided to go for a drive and check it out we ended up making a reservation for the following week.

We’ve been camping at the Spectacle Lake Resort ever since……

The Spectacle Lake Resort is very friendly family oriented resort where kids can be kids and having a good time with your family and friends is encouraged and not frown upon (like some campgrounds I know).

They offer just about anything for a relaxing family vacation.

Summer Fun on Spectacle Lake

We always rent an RV/Tent site with full hook-up for only $28.00 a night. The sites are not very big, but large enough to accommodate even the biggest RV’s (our trailer is 31’ bunkhouse with slides).

Most of the sites are located in the middle of the resort in a park lake setting right beside the heated pool, cookhouses and little playground.

Few sites are directly on the waterfront. These camp sites are smaller with not much shade. If you have an air-conditioning unit and large canopy these are the prime spots.

I do not recommend them in you have a tent only due to the shade factor and washrooms/showers being located on the other site of the resort.

No tent or RV? No Problem…….The resort also offers little motel units or 2 and 3 bedroom suites on the lake.

Heated Swimming Pool at Spectacle Lake Resort

Some people especially fish enthusiasts bring their own boat and use the boat launch and docks free of charge. I think this summer we will be bringing our boat as well.

My kids love all the activities the Spectacle Lake resort has to offer. From fishing, swimming and floating in the lake to biking around the resort and of course friendly game of horseshoes, badminton or volleyball.

Every night they hang with their new friends at the game room where they watch TV, play a game of pool or arcade games.

Of course it wouldn’t be camping without the campfire and Smore’s. Almost every site has a little neat fire pit and you can bring your own wood or purchase (reasonable) some right at the office.

The office also sells everything you need for fishing, basic camping supplies, ice cream and groceries. They offer pretty good selection of DVD and VHS rentals if you decide to spend the night indoors.

If you are looking for some adventure and/or good laugh (me on a paddle boat) explore the Spectacle lake on a paddle boat or a canoe. You can rent paddle boats, canoes and row boats at the resort for a very reasonable hourly or daily rate.

Exploring Spectacle Lake

So, if you ever find yourself traveling through the Northern Washington you must spend few days on the shores of the Spectacle lake. It took us 10 years to realize what a great place we have so close to home.

Get the most of your camping trip and combine camping at Spectacle Lake Resort with a visit to the annual Omak Stampede.

I’ve been camping since I was little and I always enjoyed it. I still like it, but these days my idea of roughing it is in our travel trailer with full hook-up,lol. That’s why I love camping at Spectacle Lake resort….full hook up all the way
