Tips For Planting Colorful Garden

Gardening season is upon us.
Yes, May is the beginning of the gardening season for me. I love to garden, but more then that I love to be surrounded by beautiful flowers and green shrubs.

Last year we sold our home…home where I spent many hours creating and planting beautiful gardens and gorgeous rockeries.
I do miss my beautiful landscaped yard and colorful gardens, but since we are in a brand new home without landscaping I get the opportunity to design and start new gardens and rockeries all over again.
I am very lucky to live in a mild climate zone where we can enjoy flowers and produce till late October.
Good rule of thumb for our climate zone is not to start planting gardens till Mother’s Day or even week after.
After Mother’s Day the possibility of frost and hail is very little and I can leave all my planters outside.
Few years ago my boys and my husband started a Mother’s Day tradition by taking me to our local nursery to pick out plants and hanging baskets for our home and garden.

I love flowers, but I am not by any means a green-thumb person. Over the years and with the help of my very talented green-thumb friend I learned few important tips about picking out flowers, plants and shrubs at the nursery:
- Always buy at least 4 containers of each variety
- Always pick plants that have flowers in a full bloom
- Make sure you buy plants that look good and colorful after they lose all the flowers
- Do not buy plants that are marked down because they don’t look good (you’ll be throwing your money away)
- Make sure you replant your flowers when you get home (evening or early morning is the best time)
- Do not buy flowers or plants with small roots
- Place your planters or plant your flowers and plants according to their labels
- Chose a color scheme. If you have few area you can have few different color schemes that compliment each other
With these few gardening tips in mind I can’t wait to start planting.
I am looking forward this Sunday not only because my family will treat me to gourmet Mother’s Day brunch at the Golf & Country Club, but because I finally get to visit our local nursery and start my new garden.
Do you have any gardening tips you would like to share? I would love to hear them….honestly, I can use all the help there is.
One more thing….I love COMMENTS like everyone else so go ahead and let me know how am I doing.I would love to hear from you.

Great advice! I am getting ready to plant a garden, I have been growing lots of plants from seeds for about a month now, some of the plants are actually big enough to go in the ground.
